Ed Sheeran Top Charts Two Days And Taylor Swift Likes It
Ed Sheeran, 25, first posted teaser videos saying that new music was coming. He then dropped two new tracks in the early hours of Friday morning, “Shape Of You” and “Castle On The Hill.”
Taylor Swift, a friend of Sheeran’s, posted on social media: “OH MY GOD OKAY IT’S HAPPENING. EVERYBODY STAY CALM.” In capitals, so maybe not so calm, then.
He returned to social media in December, exactly a year after quitting to work on his third studio album. Sheeran said he had wanted to see things through his own eyes, not a screen, and desired to travel the world.
He has also said that the new album will be the best thing he has done. His debut was +, (pronounced “Plus), in 2011, with sales of about 4 million. Then X (pronounced “Multiply”) followed in 2014, and has now sold about 7.9 million copies.
The videos and covers of the new material suggest that the 2017 album will be called ÷.
Sheeran is at No. 82 in the Forbes list 2016 of the World’s Highest-Paid Celebrities with $33.5 million. He won Grammy awards for his single “Thinking Out Loud” and set up his own aptly named label, Gingerbread Man. His earnings are bound to rise again as the new album is accompanied by a tour.
